MERRY WHATEVER

As many of you know, I've been making Christmas compilations since The Great Depression (give or take seven decades) in defiance of the idea that Christmas music generally sucks (generally it does...but it doesn't have to). It started the old-fashioned way, with what we Boomers used to call cassette tapes. These 90 minute masterpieces of obsession eventually gave way to the space age technology of CDs, condensing the number of allowable minutes but vastly improving the sound quality. And, beginning a few of years ago, I finally dragged all of us into the 21st century with handy, downloadable files.

This switch to files meant I no longer had to make and send out multiple copies. It also resulted in saving a good deal of money. And, as has become custom (and in keeping with the true spirit of the holiday season), I can pass the savings onto the charities of my choice.

I know many of us are looking forward to putting 2016 behind us. But to think everything will change for the better on January 1 is wishful thinking, and it's very possible (if not fact already), that things will change for the worse come January 20th. So this year, to combat the growing anti-science and anti-environment attitudes rising to the surface of our country, my wife and I are donating to The Sierra Club, and to combat hate, promote tolerance, and seek justice we are contributing to The Southern Poverty Law Center.

  1. Thanks Neil! Love the Southern Poverty Law Center. Excellent choice! Am hoping this music brings a smile to my face because the thought of 1/20 makes me quake and despair. I really must confess I am taking this election loss much harder than yours at the hands of Riverhead Town voters. And that says it all!
